Faithfulness Through Seasons
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” - Ecclesiastes 3:1
The Lord grows us through seasons. The creation of the four seasons is a tangible way that our gracious God shows us the detailed design He has woven into our very being and the rules He has outlined for our lives. The cycles of day into night into day again, the monthly cycles that a woman experiences, the months and terms of pregnancy while growing a baby…
Only God doesn’t change, making Him the perfect Lord and Master to guide us through the different seasons of life.
"Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” " - John 8:58
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." - Hebrews 13:8
How to behold the magnificent paradox of a God who never changes and yet live in the world wherein He made everything to change? To have eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11) and mortality in our bones? To go through seasons of pruning, seasons of waiting, seasons of trial, seasons of temptation and seasons of deep healing, and so much more, with our Savior and Lord, our Good Father.
How to discern the season that the Lord has, in His grace, placed us in? Understanding the season we are in is a prerequisite to stewarding the season well. We can humbly lay our expectations and our own plans and desired timelines at the feet of Jesus and choose to daily obey and put our hands to what He has us to do, without striving to accelerate what we’re going through to get somewhere we would prefer to be, nor cling onto what is happening in an effort to prolong what the Lord has only apportioned for a season.
And how to honor these seasons after they have passed, to appropriately discern what to carry forth into the new and what to leave behind as lessons learned or burdens shed? To prayerfully come to terms with what the Lord is calling us to bring forth into the new season and what would simply be old baggage He’s gently asking us to leave in His hands.
I have personally experienced trial and suffering in my life and seeing God’s faithful handprint marked on that season of my life encourages me that the One who leads us through the fiery trial is the very One who promises to be with us through it.
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:20
